Dinosaur Land

WA is really into dinosaur, next to cars, of course.  We took a trip all the way out to Dinosaur Land in Winchester, Virginia.  It was almost a 2 hour drive.  It is a hokie little roadside attraction but totally worth the $4 admission.  Its a huge yard filled with cement dinosaur models.  There is also a huge shark, an octopus and King Kong himself.  We really enjoyed the trip.  It felt like a crisp autumn day, especially over in the Shenandoah Valley.

He was a little scared at first, but quickly warmed up.  He really enjoyed Daddy reading the info signs to him about each dinosaur.  Very educational!  We told him a could pick out a toy dinosaur from the gift shop, but naturally, he chose a toy school bus.  I did pick up a dino poster for his bedroom door, though.

Cheers!

WA's Garden

We planted a small garden for WA to learn about nature, plants, food, and to help him understand, natural is better.  We have slowly been moving away from processed foods in this house.  I doubt I will ever be able to pry the "blue chips" (aka Cool Ranch Doritoes) out of his hands but I'll worry about that when I get there.

This year, we planted tomatoes, peppers, and squash.  I also have a blueberry bush that I planted last year.  It didnt do so well because of the shady spot it was in and the birds.  I moved it to a sunnier spot and it is looking very nice this year.  I can't wait to make my boy a Dukes Mayo and Tomatoe sandwich this summer, a Southern favorite.  My brand new climbing rose bush is doing great as well.

Cheers!

WA is 3 1/2

Its been almost six months since I updated this blog, so here goes...

WA had a great Christmas.  He got lots of cars.
Winter was mild here, no snow except a few sprinkles one morning and it was gone by the sunny afternoon.

WA was finally baptized at Church of the Messiah, here in our town.  Mom, Dad and his Godparents were present.  We took his Godparents out for lunch a week later to celebrate.

This spring we bought him a John Deere Gator for his half birthday.  I visited my friend Amy last year and her son had one and WA just loved it.  He drives that thing like a professional.

April was a very busy month.  WA had a visit to his Aunt's house (who he refers to as "Aunt Momma"), then home for baptism and Easter.  After Easter we left for Hilton Head Island.

We visited our usual vacation spot in Hilton Head Island, Sea Pines.  WA frolicked on the beach, rode ponies, went for numerous bike rides.  His cousins got to come over for a few days and he really had fun.  We tried some crafts I learned about from my awesome friend Amy, also known as Your Southern Peach.  These sailboats, and they were a hit.

It was chilly for most of the first half of the week, so the beach was cold.  I had this great photo opportunity with my two awesome nephews.

Then it warmed up closer to the end of the week.  I wanted to go to the beach after dinner on our last night to say goodbye to its beauty.  My Kentucky Gentleman got this great picture of WA and I.

We headed back home to start the month of May...

We put in a small garden for WA's nature education.  We have four tomato plants, two red pepper plants, and one each of zuchinni and straightneck yellow squashes.

We have been having a blast this morning on the $4 slip and slide I purchased at Target.  It's hot today.

We plan to visit the YMCA waterpark, Lake Anna Beach and our fabulous new backyard.  We have a kitchen remodel planned and bathrooms to paint.

Cheers!!

Merry Christmas Aunt M.

I really miss you this Christmas.
I was looking at pictures of your husband and your 3 daughters and your SON, I would have loved to have you here for some advice on raising a son.  You would have done a perfect job.
I would love to have you here for any advice.
I would love to have you here, period.
But I know where you are its glorious.  And its painless, and loving, and shining, and beautiful, and warm, and all of the millions of great things ever imagined.
But sometimes it is still hard.  I love you.

Merry Christmas, Aunt M.

I love you.

Mommie Vs. the DVD player

In an effort to save Cars 2 from the DVD player, an epic battle began.  A battle Mommie did not take lightly (since this movie will keep WA quiet long enough for me to get a nice relaxing lavendar bath for ten minutes).

Mommie won.

All hail Mommie!

And all is right and good with WA!

Cheers!

What MY KID is into...

I am asked "why?" about 47,563 times a day on every subject known to man.

Everything from the toothpaste to his crusty pants I am trying to remove are "mine."

And Legos.  Which is cool.  I liked Legos.

Cheers.

The Dasher Express, Year Two

Every year the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) hosts the Santa Trains.  For $6 per person, the entire family can ride the train with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and carolers from local schools.  Each family that purchases tickets for the train ride is asked to being an unwrapped toy for the United States Marine Corp's Tpys For Tots program.  WA obligingley gave a set of tanks to ride the train with Santa and get a chance to tell him what he wanted for Christmas.  Which was cars.  Shocker.

We have made this ride a tradition.  WA had a great time.  Enjoy!

CHOOOOOOO CHOOOOOO!

P.S. Merry Christmas!
